The steelwork is in great condition with an even dark case hardened patina.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAlong the top of the rib of the octagonal barrel is stamped \"Merwin \u0026amp; Bray. FIRE ARMS CO.NY\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe cylinder is plain except for the markings \"Patented July 12 1859 and July 21 1863\".\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe brass frame by the grips is stamped with the serial number 5824.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePlants were quite prominent in the era of early metallic cartridge handguns and Merwin \u0026amp; Bray were Agents and Financiers for them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe style is very Smith \u0026amp; Wesson, but the system is very different.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is single action only, the mainspring is good and the action is crisp in both half and full position.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe only issue that I can find is with the cylinder pin, although it holds well enough it doesn't click into place and seems a little worn.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA very interesting American revolver.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBarrel length 7.5cm, Overall length 19.5cm\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item.
