19th Century Tower & Crown Stamped Service Pistol
With its large 9.5" round barrel and a calibre of 0.75" this is definitely a hefty pistol indeed.
Although it doesn't conform to any of the standard military types of pistol, its regulation brass mounts, musket size calibre and military type hammer this was clearly a service pistol from some Department, and apart from a set of Birmingham Proof Marks, I can find no other identifying features.
The mainspring is good and the action holds at half position, but slips at full position.
The metal work is in good condition with both the steel and brass having a pleasant patina.
Although it carries some bruising, the woodwork is also in nice condition.
The brass forend cap and buttcap are a little loose ,from the styling of the lock it looks like this piece began life as a flintlock.
A good looking pistol of mammoth proportions.
Barrel length 24cm, overall length 41.5cm
Weight, just under 1.5kg.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
