Later Type 1839 Pattern Sea Service Percussion Cap Pistol
Presented without a belt hook this pattern of Sea Service Pistol was one of the first departures from Flintlock for the Royal Navy.
Although the metalwork has a nice even patina to it, I believe that this has been applied after it had received some harsh "restoration"!
Despite the pitting the Crown VR stamp is just visible, as is the Tower 1846 stamp beneath it.
The lock also carries the Crown broad arrow stamp.
The barrel is smooth and carries a total of 5 ordnance/inspection stamps.
The mainspring is smooth and the whole action is good in both half and full position and the regulation brasswork has a pleasant patina.
The woodwork is in good condition with no splits or cracks, but there are some bruises as you would expect.
I can see no further identifying marks on the woodwork.
An inexpensive piece of Victorian Naval history.
Barrel length 15cm, overall length 29cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
