Mid 19th Century English 0.38" Calibre Birmingham Made Percussion Cap 4 Shot Pepperbox Revolver
A very interesting configuration of a 4 shot square fluted barrel cluster.
The steelwork has a bright finish with some staining and does show some minor signs of corrosion.
It is unsigned but the body has clear foliate engraving, as does the frame and trigger guard.
The barrel cluster is numbered 1-4 at each chamber and is stamped between this with the Birmingham Proof Mark.
The bar hammer has nice "ropework" engraving and the muzzle is decorated with an acanthus leaf design.
The nipples are all original and are actually in not too bad condition (a little powder corrosion for sure).
The two piece wooden grips are finely hatched and are in lovely condition with no splits or cracks and the securing screw has lozenge shaped, engraved silver (white metal) surrounds.
The mainspring is strong and the double action only mechanism operates as it should.
An interesting and unusual revolver.
