19th Century American Percussion Cap Pepperbox Pistol
An Allen's patent 1845 double action pepperbox revolver with foliate engraving to the body.
The steelwork is in good condition with some staining to the cylinder, which has obscured another Allen description stamp.
Woodwork is in good condition, but there appears to be a small screw missing, but this doesn't seem to affect it in any way.
The mainspring is fine, and the action works well, engaging the hammer and revolving the cylinder.
This pistol has been heavily polished in the past, but this has left it with a very tactile feel.
Ethan Allen (1808-1871) was a gunmaker of Massachusetts.
