Mid 19th Century French Or Belgian Rifled Boxlock Pocket Pistol With A Fluted Ebony Grip
Typical of high end continental pieces with a bright steel finish with a carved contrasting ebony grip, spring hidden trigger, rifled barrel and good foliate engraving.
To further help with accuracy, the hammer has been offset to one side keeping the aiming line clear.
Apart from the good foliate engraving to the body, the only other marks I can find is the number 42 marked on the body, barrel (and the 2 is just about visible on the hammer).
The mainspring is strong and the action is crisp in both half and full positions.
The concealed trigger is of that clever design (that I have only seen on continental pieces) where because it is spring loaded it automatically snaps closed once the trigger has been pulled.
The polished round heavily rifled barrel unscrews cleanly and the whole piece is finished off with a polished steel buttcap that has been contoured to match the fluting of the ebony.
As with some other beautiful continental pieces that we have seem I will repeat that I find it unusual for such a seemingly quality piece to have no signature!
Barrel length 5.5cm, Overall length 16cm.
