Mid 18th Century Full Stocked Flintlock Holster Pistol With Beautiful Carving And Wire Inlay
A beautiful steel and walnut flintlock holster pistol with features such as an ornately carved and striped walnut stock, intricately moulded trigger guard, silver (white metal) wire inlaid into the butt and an engraved octagonal to round barrel with gold (yellow metal) details.
The tail of the stepped and bevelled lock is finely engraved, but is otherwise undecorated and unsigned.
The mainspring is strong and the action is smooth in both half and full position.
The steel tipped wooden ramrod looks correct, but the worm unloading tool on the end seems to catch internally so care is needed when fitting and removing the ramrod.
The detailing and finish of this piece obviously mark it as a pistol of high quality so I am very surprised that it is unsigned ......... maybe it was a showpiece to take to potential clients or perhaps a Journeymans final piece before progressing to Master Gunsmith? All speculation of course, we will never know, but a stunning piece nonetheless.
Barrel length 21.5cm, Overall price 36cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable, ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
