Mid 19th Century English Unsigned Transitional Revolver Of 0.41" Calibre Engraved London
A good sized percussion cap transitional revolver with a 5 shot cylinder of 0.40" calibre.
It has simple foliate engraving to the body, frame, trigger guard and barrel.
The steelwork has a smooth but stained patina with a few areas of very light pitting.
The 5" octagonal barrel is engraved on the top flat "London" and has Birmingham Proof Marks stamped underneath.
The cylinder is also stamped between each chamber with Birmingham Proofs.
The percussion nipples are all original and look in good condition.
The two piece grip is finely hatched and is also in very good condition.
The mainspring is good and the double action only mechanism works as it should although the cylinder occasionally doesn't cycle correctly.
Maybe not a high quality piece made by a Master Gunsmith, but built by the Birmingham Gun Trade to do a job (something they were well known for) and still looking good over 150 years later.
