19th Century English Percussion Cap Transitional Revolver Of 0.38" Calibre In Its Lined Oak Case With Accessories

An unnamed, but nevertheless nicely finished transitional revolver of large size finished in bright steel with foliate engraving across most of its surface.

The metalwork is in good condition and there are Birmingham proof Marks to the barrel and between each chamber on the cylinder which are also numbered 1 to 6.

The mainspring is strong and the double action only system operates correctly.

The 2 piece wooden grip is finely hatched but worn and one side has a crack running through it.

The engraved buttcap has a hinged compartment for storing percussion caps.

Finally with regards to the pistol, there is a little play in the rod that secures the barrel and cylinder to the body (see video) and the barrel securing screw looks to have been replaced at some point.

Now to the case, made of oak and of substantial but quality construction.

The interior has 6 compartments which have been relined at some time in the past and contains the following:-

  • Copper & brass powder flask.
  • Steel wad cutter stamped "Priory England"
  • Key (although the lock is not working)
  • Eley percussion cap tin
  • Scissor bullet mould stamped 38
  • Small quantity of lead shot

A nice addition to a collection from the early days of the revolver.

Barrel length 15.5cm, Overall length (pistol) 31.5cm.

Case 35cm x 18.5cm x 7.5cm

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
