18th Century French Full Stocked Holster Pistol Of Elegant Style With Peborde A Paris Engraved On The Stepped And Bevelled Lock
Although a little worn by centuries of cleaning and polishing this pistol shows off all the styling of the French Gunmaker of the time from the fine engraving to the silver (white metal) wire work and the carving of the walnut stock.
The steelwork is in good condition with the octagonal to round barrel being clean steel with some areas of staining. It is undecorated, but I can see part of a Proof Mark low down on the left side by the breech.
The lock is clean and has a light grey patina with an engraved double line border and Stand of Arms decoration at the tail.
It is signed in flowing script "Peborde A Paris".
The mainspring is very strong and the action is crisp in both half and full position.
The brass furniture has a pleasant and clean, but unpolished finish and is finely engraved with the sideplate trigger guard and long eared buttcap having a Crown over R stamp, maybe some kind of Inspectors Stamp?
It has a steel tipped wooden ramrod which may be a replacement.
A beautiful flintlock pistol.
Barrel length 20.5cm, Overall length 35cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
