Mid 19th Century English Percussion Cap 0.32" Calibre Pepperbox Revolver
A very clean example of this classic predecessor to the revolver.
The heavy ribbed fluted barrel cluster is a 6 shot 0.32" calibre with Birmingham Proof Marks stamped between each barrel and faint acanthus leaf type engraving at the muzzle.
The nipples are all original and are in good condition.
Moving further back beyond the nipple shield the body has a foliate engraved design on each side with the bar hammer having a simple engraving on top.
The trigger guard is the only area of steelwork that shows any signs of corrosion with some pitting which does hide the foliate engraving somewhat.
The spine of the frame has a small area of foliate engraving as does the buttcap.
The plain two piece walnut grip carries a few bruises as you might expect, but it is in good condition with no splits or cracks. The grips are held together with one screw which has a silver (white metal) diamond shaped surround.
Apart from the trigger guard as mentioned above, the steelwork is in great condition with a smooth even dark patina across all parts.
The mainspring is strong and the double action only mechanism is crisp with the barrel cluster cycling as it should.
A handsome piece.
Barrel lengths 7.5cm, Overall length 20cm.
