19th Century 12 Shot Pinfire Revolver Made By J Chaineux
A scarce and unusual pinfire revolver with a fitted lanyard ring.
Still operating crisply in a single and double action and with no damage to the two piece wooden grip.
There are however, signs of its age, such as the light pitting across much of the metalwork and wear to the cross hatched wooden grips.
Made for the English market, there are Birmingham Proof Marks stamped between each chamber and although struck off centre it is possible to make out the makers name J. Chaineux with some lettering after that, which I cannot make out.
I can find several J. Chaineux Makers listed, two of whom are from Belgium and one from Paris (although I am a little dubious about the veracity of that last one).
The two Belgian Makers were Joseph Chaineux of Wandre who operated between 1858 and 1864 and the other was Joseph Lambert Chaineux of Liege who was active between 1864 and 1884.
Whoever made it, they created a scarce and unusual revolver that is now approximately 160 years old and operating smoothly.
Barrel length 12cm, Overall length 22cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
