Mid 19th Century Percussion Cap Pepperbox Revolver By Allen & Wheelock

A lovely medium sized Worcester model six shot percussion cap pepperbox revolver of 0.31" calibre in polished steel with a two piece polished walnut grip.

The steelwork is in great condition with a smooth polished look and retaining good engraving and lettering.

The 6 shot barrel cluster is 3 1/4" and is clearly stamped in several places between the barrels "Allen & Wheelock" "Worcester" and "Patented April 18".  The bar hammer is also stamped with "Allens Patent 1845".

The body and nipple shield have foliate engraving whilst the spine of the frame has a nice border design.  The trigger guard is plain.

The mainspring is good and the double action only system is crisp and works as it should with the barrel cluster revolving as it should.

The grips have a lovely dark colouration and have no splits or cracks, showing just a few age related bruises.

Ethan Allen achieved great success and fame with his pepperbox revolvers which are regarded as the first American 6 shot double action hand guns.

Even standing against the iconic Colts, his pepperbox revolvers maintained high sales and renown.

Although Ethan Allen began production in the 1830's, the Worcester model I believe dates from between 1856 and 1864 (when production ceased).

A handsome piece in great condition.

Barrel length 8cm, Overall length 18.5m.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable, ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
