Mid 19th Century Percussion Cap Cavalry Pistol Of Very Robust Design With Crowned M On The Lock
A very interesting pistol that looks very similar to the French made Cavalry pistols, but without any provision for a ramrod and a tricky one to place.
This is apparently a design made for the Piedmontese Cavalry (Kingdom of Sardinia) and was originally made as a flintlock in the 1820's and 30's and then converted to percussion cap in the 1840's and 50's.
It is in great condition with a lovely aged patina.
The lock is stamped with a Crowned M and the hammer has a small Crowned PA (Prova d'Armi) acceptance stamp.
The back of the brass buttcap is stamped V over 192 over 1832.
The mainspring is good and the action is both smooth and crisp in half and full position.
Like the metalwork, the walnut stock is in great condition and has a lovely smooth dark colouration.
It has a few age related bruises, but no splits or cracks.
A robust and good looking military pistol in good condition.
