19th Century Indian or Persian Full Stocked Holster Pistol With A Highly Decorated Barrel.

I'm not entirely sure which nation to attribute this piece to.  Its decoration might say Persian, but its length and uncarved stock don't.  I'll leave that to you.

The metalwork is in good condition with a gun metal great patina and no pitting.

The barrel is damascus with silver (white metal) inlay decoration along its entire length.

The barrel tang extends half way down the spine of the pistol and has a bone "stripe" either side of it along with decorative copper inlaid studs.

The lock is plain, but you can just about see vestiges of faded decoration and from the looks of it this is a replacement percussion cap lock to its original flintlock one.

The mainspring is good, but the hammer won't quite hold in half or full position.

The stock is in good condition with only a few bruises, but signs of a good repair are evident around the lock (where it was changed probably).

The stocks most distinguishing feature however, is its attractive tiger strip patternation.

Despite its faults its a handsome piece.

Barrel length 19cm, Overall length 33.5cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
