19th Century Cased Pair Of English Flintlock Pocket Pistols By Samuel Brunn Of London
A dainty pair of quality made 0.36 calibre flintlock boxlock pocket pistols in a green baise lined fitted case with 2 lidded compartments, also within are an ebony handled turnscrew, a little bullet mould and a very nice Dixon & Sons brass and copper 3 way powder flask.
There is also a key for the case (which doesn't seem to fit correctly) and a few lead shot.
The engraving on the pistols are very fine and they are signed Brunn within a cartouche surrounded by a Stand Of Arms on one side and London similarly decorated on the other side.
The hidden triggers have a leaf border design around them on the frame and the barrels are engraved, both at the muzzle and breach.
The browned metalwork is in great condition with no pitting or corrosion.
The woodwork is also in nice condition, with very little damage to the slab sided walnut grips and they have cross hatch carving with large silver (white metal) diamond shaped escutcheons.
They have waterproof frizens with roller bearings, top sliding safety catches and hidden triggers.
The mainsprings are strong and the actions are both crisp in half and full positions. Both barrels unscrew.
The case has the correct trade label and is in good condition, but the lid is a little warped, so when it is closed it fits tightly.
Samuel Brunn was a Sword Cutler and Gunsmith and was registered in London between 1795 and 1820 and had premises at 55 and 56 Charing Cross, London. He is well regarded as a maker of high quality firearms.
This is a beautiful set of pistols.
