Late 18th/Early 19th Century Ottoman Steel Mounted Flintlock Knee Blunderbuss With A Beautifully Decorated Barrel, Buttcap And Stock
With a silver (white metal) damascened buttcap and barrel and with panels on the butt inlaid with wire of the same metal.
The stock has been heavily carved across all of its surface and with hundreds of years of polishing the edges have smoothed, but the detail still remains leaving a beautiful tactile feel to the whole piece.
The rounded banana shaped lock looks to be of high quality and European.
There is evidence of fine engraving on the lock but much of this has worn away on the bright steel finish.
The mainspring is strong and the action is smooth and crisp in half and full position.
This piece also has a saddle bar fitted, meaning that it was intended for use by mounted troops.
The steel of the barrel and buttcap has a mottled dark aged patina which really makes the damascene work stand out.
This is a high quality blunderbuss in great condition.
Barrel length 24cm, Overall length 46cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
