Dated 1872 Spanish 11mm Pinfire Revolver With Gold And Silver (Yellow and White Metal) Damascene Decoration
With approximately 40-50% of its original bluing remaining and the silver and gold coloured decoration, this is a very attractive revolver indeed.
Add to that the large calibre, underslung bayonet and folding trigger, and you then add interesting and unusual to the attractiveness.
The top flat of the barrel is inscribed "Construydo en Eibar Anno 1872" (Constructed in Eibar in the year 1872). Frustratingly I have unable to find any kind of Makers Mark or name anywhere on the piece.
The silver and gold (white and yellow metal) decoration starts at the muzzle and continues down the barrel, around the cylinder and across the body of the revolver and there are virtually no visible signs of any corrosion with the steelwork being smooth.
The mainspring is strong and the mechanism is crisp in single and double actions.
There is a little staining on the left hand grip, but both sides are of crisply hatched hardwood and have not suffered any splits or cracks.
The bayonet catch and spring both work as they should, but the locking mechanism is a little weak (please see the video).
Given its large calibre and lanyard ring I am unsure if this is a Private Purchase Officers piece or simply a high end Civilian piece for a client who simply wants the best in personal safety!
Either way, it is a scarce and attractive focus for any revolver collection.
Barrel length 15cm, Overall length 27cm, Bayonet length 11cm.
