19th Century Belgian Rifled Over & Under Howdah/Officers Pistol
A beautifully engraved large over and under configuration double barreled pistol with large calibre rifled damascus barrels, with the words Damas Anglais written in gold along the top (partially rubbed off).
The locks, hammers, trigger guard and breech have profuse floral engraving and the barrels are stamped with the Liege Proof Mark along with several other inspection/makers stamps.
The two ramrod pipes that would have been sited down the central rib between the two barrels is missing, as is the buttcap.
The fluted one piece grip is beautifully tactile and worn smooth over time and there is a small split in front of the left hand hammer and the breech.
The damascus on this piece is also beautiful (there is probably a name for it, as it isn't simply twisted).
The mainsprings are both strong and the actions in half and full positions are smooth on both locks.
Although not at its best, this is a fine quality piece that I am surprised has no signature. The longer you look, the better it gets.
