Mid 19th Century Large Calibre Percussion Cap Officers Pistol Signed By The Quality Maker J B Ronge Liege
A quality military pistol in great condition featuring a rifled damascus barrel, crisp fine foliate engraving to the forend cap, trigger, guard, lock, hammer, breechblock and barrel tang.
It has a beautifully fluted butt in the continental style, with a finely shaped steel buttcap with a fully articulated lanyard ring.
The barrel carries the Liege Proof mark and the lock is signed "J B Ronge Fils a Liege".
The barrel wedge mounts and shield shaped escutcheon are of silver (white metal) and the the turned tapering steel ramrod is nicely topped in brass.
The mainspring is strong and the action is smooth and crisp in half and full position.
The woodwork has some minor marks that you would expect, but is also in beautiful condition with a lovely smooth patina and feel.
The whole thing fits together seamlessly.
J B (Jean Baptiste) Ronge was a quality Gunmaker of Liege. Dates seem to vary, but to encompass all of what I've found, his Company spanned 3 centuries 1780's-1929.
A cracking piece this.
