18th Century Brass Cannon Barreled Flintlock Pistol By Mortimer
A stunning all brass and walnut cannon barreled boxlock flintlock pistol with fine silver (white metal) wire inlay to the grip.
Engraved on each side with stand of arms decoration signed Mortimer on one side and London on the other, with clear private London Proof Marks.
The barrel unscrews cleanly and the mainspring is very strong.
The action is super crisp in both half and full positions.
The beveled edge walnut grip is in great condition with virtually all of its inlay intact.
The only fault I can find is with the trigger guard, which is a little loose.
HW Mortimer, son of Samuel Mortimer was born in 1753 and by 1783 was appointed Gunmaker to King George III. Samuel Mortimer had 3 sons, all of whom entered the gun making trade. Harvey Walkate was the eldest, but to be fair this pistol could be attributed to either Harvey Walkate or Thomas, who was only 2 years younger.
An absolutely beautiful piece.
Barrel length 7cm, overall length 20.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
