19th Century British Military New Land Type Tower GR Percussion Cap Pistol
An interesting piece this, a New Land Pattern George III flintlock pistol, later converted to percussion cap.
The steel work is in great condition, except for some heavy pitting around the muzzle and has a lovely grey patina.
The lock still retains its Crown GR Tower Stamp and the Crown Broad Arrow and it has gained a sliding safety bolt that operates from the sideplate side.
The percussion hammer is of an earlier type used on converted military pistols and has a small lip to allow proper engagement of the safety bolt.
The barrel (and several screws and barrel tang and hammer) is stamped 75 and carries the Ordnance Proof Marks.
The swivel for the ramrod looks very crisp and I can only think that this is a replacement.
The mainspring is smooth and the action is crisp in both half and full position.
The safety bolt also operates smoothly.
The back of the trigger guard is stamped K.U.A.4: and I'm currently at a loss as to what Regiment (if that is what it signifies) this is.
The walnut stock is in nice condition with some bruising and a little damage around one side of the barrel wedge.
A nice interesting military piece.
Barrel length 23cm, overall length 39.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
