19th Century English 7mm Pinfire Pocket Revolver In Its Original Case By Charles O Bircham Of London
A great set consisting of a tidy 7mm pocket revolver with Birmingham Proof Marks to the barrel and between each chamber on the cylinder, also engraved along the top of the barrel "C O Bircham, Poplar, London".
The inside of the lid of the case carries the trade label (which looks original) for C O Bircham, Rifle and Gunmakers, Poplar, London.
The accessories carried in the case comprise of 6 inert 7mm Eley pinfire rounds, a brass gun oiler and a small turnscrew stamped W Marples and Sons.
The case itself is in good condition and although the key turns anticlockwise in the lock, it does not engage the lock properly.
The green baise lining to this case is threadbare in places, which lends me to believe it is all correct.
Ok, back to the revolver.........
The metalwork is in good condition with the frame having a dark "browned" patina and the cylinder retaining much of it bluing.
The main spring is strong and the single and double action is very crisp.
The ejector rod is worthy of mention, being in my opinion a great design with a fixed sleeve holding the sprung ejector rod in place. Much quicker to eject the spent shell cases than the normal style ejector.
The brass oiler is ironically seized closed and looks like it might have been cross threaded at some point.
The turnscrew, well let's just say that is is functional rather than a thing of beauty.
The 6 rounds that are included have been drilled out so they are inert and by the reputable maker Eley.
Charles O. Bircham was listed as being at 124 Poplar High Street, Eastern Central London, from 1867-1890, afterwhich the company became C. O. Bircham & Son from the same address from 1891-1900.
A great example of a Mid Victorian English Pinfire Revolver, a type of firearm so strongly associated with the Continent.
Barrel length 8cm, Overall length 17.5cm
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
