Mid To Late 18th Century French Full Stocked Double Barrelled Flintlock Pistol
You don't see too many of these!
A lovely little French 18th Century double barrelled flintlock travelling pistol.
Full stocked in walnut with teardrop carving behind each lock and floral designs behind the barrel tang.
All the metalwork is steel from the tiny ramrod to the long eared buttcap.
The locks are unsigned and undecorated and there is clear evidence of wear and pitting to all metal parts, there is no doubt that this pistol has travelled and not been left in a drawer somewhere.
The stock is also worn, but beautifully smoothed and polished which is my opinion adds something to the piece that many don't have.
The forend of the stock has been replaced at some time, but its been nicely done with the carving around the front of the lock being recreated and having that nice smooth finish.
The mainsprings are good and the actions are fine in half and full positions (better than fine on the right hand lock).
The frizens do operate, but weirdly, unlike the locks it is the left hand one that is better than the right hand side. There are both very worn.
A scarce and handsome little pistol.
Barrel lengths 7cm, Overall lengths 17.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
