Late 18th Century Dutch Flintlock Service Pistol Signed Keunings Maestricht
A long barrelled full stocked military flintlock pistol by Keunings of Maestricht.
Having both the surname and city of the maker, I was hoping to tell you a little about him, unfortunately my normal searches have drawn a blank!
A large pistol of 0.7 calibre with a long eared buttcap of brass with a bright steel lock and barrel with the lock signed Keunings Maestricht and a Makers Mark at the tail (I think this mark is repeated on the brass trigger guard, but it is very worn).
Overall the metalwork is in good condition in bright steel with a little staining and pitting on the barrel at the breech. The brasswork has a nice aged patina.
There is only some simplistic line detail to the buttcap and ramrod pipes, so I would say that this is a Troopers pistol, rather than an Officers pistol.
The mainspring is good, as is the action in both half and full position.
The stock is a dark stained hardwood and is very thin (and therefore damaged and split) at the muzzle. There is also a thin line showing an old repaired split through the butt.
It has a heavy tapered steel ramrod.
A clean looking military flintlock pistol.
Barrel length 27cm, Overall length 45cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
