Mid 19th Century Percussion Cap 0.65 Calibre EIG Lancer Pistol

Not entirely sure of its classification, but I believe it to be the 1858 Pattern Enfield type smooth bore with a sighted 8" barrel, swivel ramrod and regulation brass furniture made for the East India Government.

The lock is stamped 1867 Birmingham and has the Crown EIG behind the hammer.  The hammer (where it strikes the cap) looks like it has received a little damage.

There is crown stamp along the top flat of the barrel, as well as the usual inspection stamps that you expect to find on Military pistols.

Overall the steelwork is in good condition and has a pleasing unpolished steel patina.

The woodwork is similarly pleasing, with good colouration and only a few bruises.  There is an old crack on the counter lock side, but this is filled and polished smooth.  On this side there is also an EIG stamp.

The mainspring is strong and the action is crisp in both half and full position.

A piece of history from the "Honourable East India Company".

Barrel length 20cm, overall length 35cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
