Mid 19th Century U.S. Remington 4 Shot 0.32" Calibre Rimfire Derringer Of The Elliots Patent Design

A cracking little 4 shot Rimfire Derringer or pocket pistol of a design that looks way ahead of its years and despite the look of the butt it actually sits in the hand very comfortably.

In production between 1863 and 1888 up to about 22,000 of these (and the 5 shot 0.22" calibre) were made.

The serial number of this one is 6840 which is stamped on the inside of the frame and the underside of the barrel.

In small but clear writing on the right side of the barrel cluster is stamped "Elliots Patent May 29. 1850-Oct1. 1861 and on the left side is stamped "Manufactured by E Remington and Sons. Ilion. N.Y.

The metalwork is a very pleasant and smooth grey steel and in good condition with only one small spot of visible corrosion on the top R/H barrel close to the breach.

The mainspring is strong and the double action only mechanism is crisp.

The two piece grips are of gutta percha and are in great condition.

The barrel drops forwards for loading once a small lug beneath the barrel cluster is pulled forward and the trigger system is quite unique (please see the video).

A very handsome and unique looking piece in good condition.

Barrel lengths 8.5cm, Overall length 13cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable, ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
