Early 19th Century Flintlock Pocket Pistol By Woolley Deakin & Co, London

A cracking little round framed flintlock pocket pistol signed Woolley Deakin & Co London.

There is crisp Stand of Arms decoration with cartouches engraved "Wooley Deakin & Co" on one side and "London" on the other.

There are clear London Proof marks on the underside of the body.

The metalwork is polished steel with very little corrosion, but a stained barrel.

The frizen has roller bearings and a waterproof pan, so combined with a top sliding safety catch and concealed trigger, this is a quality little piece.

The mainspring is strong and the action is super crisp in both half and full positions.  The frizen is also super slick.  The barrel unscrews smoothly.

The cross hatching on the one piece walnut bag shaped grip is also in good condition, with only a couple of minor defects where it joins the metalwork.

James Woolley (from Birmingham) was a well known sword maker from the late 18th Century and partnered up with a few others during this time, all in Birmingham.  It seems he partnered with Deakin in 1800 and in Company of others as well until 1812.

There is plenty of information online regarding the sword making, but nothing about gun making, and in London too??  Curious.........

A good looking pocket pistol.

Barrel length 4.5cm, overall length 15cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
