19th Century Belgian Long Double Barrelled 0.49 Calibre Percussion Cap Pistol Of High Quality
A stunning Belgian made double barrelled percussion cap back action pistol which is highly decorated to a point that I can only call exhibition grade.
It features the best looking damascus barrels I have ever seen (I think it might be raindrop pattern), intricate, extensive floral gilding to the hammers, locks, breech and backstrap. There is also a heavy silver (white metal) band at the breech and pins in the heavily carved grip, as well an intricate brass moulding to the trigger guard, ramrod pipe and the lidded grotesque buttcap.
On the top ridge between the 2 barrels is the word DAMASCO OR DAMAS CO written in gold (yellow metal) within a silver (white metal) lined cartouche with flourishes, very attractive against the much darker barrels. I'm amazed that I can find no signatures on this piece.
The mainsprings are strong and the actions are super crisp in both half and full positions.
OK, so I've highlighted this pieces fine points, but there are also some issues, which are its missing ramrod and fore end ramrod pipe, a small amount of wear to the gilding and the butt which has a repaired split, which is quite visible.
Please check out the video and photos for this one as my description doesn't do it justice............those barrels!!
Barrel lengths 25cm, Overall lengths 42cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
