Stunning Pair of Top Quality Target/Dueling Pistols By August Klawitter circa 1840
A beautiful matching pair of target or dueling pistols by the German maker August Klawitter who was the Court Gunmaker to the King of Hannover.
With dove tail foresights, damascus twist octagonal barrels, double gold line at the breech and gold poincons on the breech block, and also set into the locks marked Klawitter Herzberg.
Beautiful engraving to the hammers, locks and blued furniture.
Half stocked with brass tipped ebony ramrods, the grips are finely cross hatched.
Nearly all the original colouring remains on both pistols and overall they are in great condition.
One unusual feature is the safety levers just in front of the hammers, which when engaged hold the hammers just off the nipples. Ingenious and something I've not seen before.
The mainsprings are strong and the actions are crisp in both half and full positions, the safety levers are also smooth in operation.
An absolutely cracking pair of pistols in super condition.
Barrels 23cm, overall length 37cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
