Early 19th Century Flintlock Pistol By Joseph Wood

A nice little short barreled boxlock pocket pistol with a hidden trigger and top mounted safety catch,

The metalwork has some staining, but overall is in good condition, engraved at the muzzle with acanthus leaves and signed within cartouches surrounded by Stand Of Arms decoration, "Wood" on one side and York on the other.

The slab sided walnut grip is also in good condition and has a silver (white metal) escutcheon at the shoulder.

The mainspring is good and the action is fine in half and full position.

The hidden trigger drops down as it should, but is stiff to engage fully.

It has clear Birmingham Proof Marks plus a "tombstone" makers mark.

The thin wire frame of the safety catch is damaged, so I'm unwilling to apply too much pressure to see how well this operates.

Joseph Wood is listed at 28 Spurrier Gate from 1815 to 1867 alone and then with his son, during that time.

A handsome little piece.

Barrel length 4.5cm, overall length 16cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
