Late 18th Century English Light Dragoon Military Flintlock Pistol With 1780 Storekeepers Stamp
Ok, one for you gifted restorers out there, this one is in a bad way to be fair.
It has a replacement lock (cock missing) engraved Smith & Walker and there are several areas of the stock that have "chunks" missing.
The brasswork however is all good, if a bit scratched and the trigger guard does have a split across the tang.
The barrel has suffered from surface corrosion but the Tower Proof Marks are clear.
There is also a major saving grace in my opinion which is the Georgian Storekeepers Stamp on the stock of 1780, smack bang in the middle of the American War of Independence. I believe that Storekeepers Stamps didn’t start being dated until this period.
There is also another Inspection Crown Stamp on the right hand side of the butt next to the trigger guard.
This is an early Light Dragoon pistol (possibly a 1759 Model?).
Barrel length 23cm, Overall length 39.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
