19th Century Single Barrelled Percussion Cap Sporting Gun, Lock Signed Hayward & Son, Tewkesbury
Half stocked in walnut with a silver (white metal) forend cap.
The steelwork has a very dark smooth patina and the lock has fine foliate engraving and is signed Hayward & Son, Tewkesbury.
The mainspring is good and the action (although a little loose) holds in half and full position. It has an octagonal to round barrel which is proofed underneath with marks for Birmingham. It has one ramrod pipe missing and at some point lost its original ramrod which has been replaced with an interesting all steel blacksmith made piece. One barrel wedge surround is the original silver (white metal) but the other has been replaced with one made of steel at some point.
The stock is bruised and has a crack in the left hand forestock. There is also a small piece missing in front of the lock that was lost in antiquity due to the smoothness of the edges. Despite this it has a rich colour and smooth feel.
With its 79cm barrel and half stock, it makes for quite an elegant small long arm.
Barrel length 79cm, Overall length 120.5cm.
A note regarding packaging on this one.
It will be shipped out as stripped down (barrel, stock and ramrod individually wrapped with the barrel wedge taped to the barrel packaging). This will enable us to rely on Parcelforce for delivery.
