Mid 19th Century German Officers Pistol Of 0.48" Calibre Signed In Silver I Adam Kuchenreuter an Regensburg
A beautiful pistol in good condition made by a Gunmaker who served as the Royal Bavarian Court Gunsmith.
There were two Johan Adam Kuchenreuters (Father and Son), but as I believe that this looks to be an early percussion cap pistol, I believe that it should be attributed to the elder (1794-1869).
The family dynasty of Gunmakers first made an appearance in the late 17th Century and continued until the very end of the 19th Century and were renowned for their quality making pieces for Kings, Princes, Tsars and also Napolean.
This piece has a heavy octagonal barrel inscribed in silver (white metal) I Adam Kuchenreuter an Regensburg and features a pivoting safety catch, adjustable rear site, set trigger and metal furniture made exclusively from silver (white metal),
The mainspring is smooth and strong and the action is crisp in both half and full positions.
Given its calibre and the fact it has a socket for a detachable shoulder stock, I think that this is an Officers pistol rather than a civilian target pistol.
There is a number 2 engraved at the breech, so originally this would have been one of a pair, I'm sorry I can't offer up its twin as well!
The half stock is of fine walnut and is also in good condition, with no splits or cracks and just age related bruising being evident.
A fine quality pistol made for a wealthy Officer by a renowned Gunmaker, a good combination for any collection.
Barrel length 20cm, Overall length 32.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
