19th Century Indian Holster Pistol 0.69 Calibre With Bone Inlay Decoration
With a heavy octagonal barrel of 0.69 calibre, a swivel ramrod and lanyard ring.
All the above lead me to believe that this is a military piece, perhaps a Native Officer with its bone inlay, chequered grip and brass fittings?
The barrel has been ground back to a bright finish with vestiges of the pitting it did appear to have, but the lock still has a pleasant brown aged patina.
The brasswork comprises of a forend cap, trigger guard, buttcap and a backstrap, all of which have not been cleaned in some time leaving a nice dark patina.
The mainspring is strong and the action is good in half and full position.
The half stock is in really good condition and if it was on a Western pistol, would have said it was walnut, but although I can't be sure, it is a nice close grained hardwood with a lovely dark patina.
An interesting Eastern piece with design features taken from the Western World.
