19th Century Back Action Percussion Cap Pistol Finely Engraved And Signed By Richardson Of Limerick
A very handsome little pistol with a 3/4 stock made of walnut, a stirrup ramrod and profuse fine engraving to the back action lock, hammer, nipple drum and barrel tang.
The trigger guard is also engraved nicely, but this is slightly more worn.
The lock is engraved with the makers name Richardson and the top flat of the 8cm octagonal barrel is inscribed Limerick.
The metalwork is in great condition with a clean steel finish and the barrel wedge surrounds and oval escutcheon are made of silver (white metal).
The mainspring is good and the action is crisp in both half and full position.
The woodwork is in great shape too, with a lovely smooth dark finish, even though it carries some minor bruising and a couple of almost invisible cracks.
I've done a quick search and there was a George Richardson listed in Cork (which borders Limerick), and although his own business dated from 1844-1875 he was listed as a Gunmaker from 1824.
A stunning little pistol.
Barrel length 8cm, Overall length 17cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable, ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
