19th Century Side Hammer Boxlock Manstopper Belt Pistol
A striking piece, as it retains all of its "blued" dark finish to the metalwork, against the lighter colour of its one piece (possibly) oak grip.
The metalwork has profuse scroll engraving and it has a silver (white metal) escutcheon at the shoulder.
The huge calibre (approx 0.65") heavy octagonal barrel (which unscrews) is engraved at the muzzle, has a silver (white metal) foresight and is clearly stamped with the Birmingham Proof Marks.
This may have been a service pistol of some kind, as there is a faint stamp of a Crown on the left side of the oak grip, although it carries no service numbers.
The mainspring is strong and the action holds well in half and full position. The trigger guard is slightly loose.
A great unusual pistol this one.
Barrel length 8cm, overall length 22.5cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
