Mid 19th Century English Percussion Cap Pepperbox Revolver of 0.4" Calibre
With a 4" fluted barrel cluster of 0.4" calibre this is quite a large revolver, and with a finely engraved white metal (silver) body it is better than average quality.
It also seems to have what looks like a burr walnut two piece grip, so I was surprised to see that the cartouche on the left side of the body was blank, the one on the right side stating "Improved Revolving Pistol".
The barrels are numbered 1-6 and between each one is the Birmingham Proof Mark.
The steelwork has a dark gun metal patina but there are signs of minor corrosion in the form of a light peppering of a pitted finish.
The mainspring is good and the action (double action only) cycles, although the mechanism feels a little off centre (something not quite right) and the trigger must return to its rest position fully to allow it to cycle again. Please see the video.
A large and attractive Pepperbox Revolver
