Early 19th Century Royal Navy Issue Long Sea Service Pistol

The long elegant lines of this pattern of Royal Navy sidearm are unmistakable.

The steelwork of this piece is of a bright steel finish, but showing some aged staining particularly on the barrel and belthook.

The lock is stamped with Tower, Crown over GR and the smaller Crowned Broad Arrow Inspection Stamp.

The barrel has the Tower Proof Mark, together with the Crowned GR over Broad Arrow.  There is also a Crown Inspection Stamp on the barrel tang.

In fact there are quite a few stamps on this pistol including a Crowned Broad Arrow on the distinctive buttcap, a Crowned 1 on the belthook, Crowned 3 on the inside of the trigger guard and no less than 5 stamps on the butt and ramrod channel.

The woodwork is also in good condition and carries a beautiful warm lustre.

There are a few light bruises, but apart from a small chip at the tail of the lock there appear to be no splits or cracks.

The brass tipped ramrod sits well in its channel but it tapers to a fine point and is warped, as to whether it is a replacement I cannot tell, although it does look original and the tip is stamped with a Crown over GR?

Finally the mainspring is good and the action smooth in half and full position.

A very handsome pistol of Royal Navy  issue during the Napoleonic period.

Barrel length 30.5cm, Overall length 49cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
