Late 18th/ Early 19th Century Spanish Miquelet Military Pistol Stamped I. Bornio Within A Cartouche
A handsome but utilitarian Spanish holster miquelet lock pistol of large calibre (0.7" calibre) with brass mounts.
The slightly swamped octagonal to round barrel still retains some of its original bluing and like the rest of the steelwork, is smooth and free from pitting or corrosion.
The walnut stock has graceful curves and has lovely colouration and apart from one old crack that starts at the forend, it is in good condition.
The buttcap, trigger guard and ramrod pipe are of brass and its ebonised ramrod is also tipped with brass.
As you might be able to tell from the video, the mainspring is very strong, as is the frizen spring and the full position only mechanism works as it should.
There is a makers name within a cartouche on the back of the frizen steel, which is "I. Bornio" of whom I've been able to find no information.
Given the calibre of this piece, I have concluded that it is a military piece, cavalry, most likely.
A handsome Spanish pistol that sits beautifully in the hand.
Barrel length 23cm, Overall length 36cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
