19th Century Gendarmerie Percussion Cap Pistol
An undecorated, but sturdy example of the Model 1842 back action French Police Pistol with 483 stamped on the barrel and butt cap. It also looks like it has the date 1861 stamped above the 483, but it is now very faint.
The mainspring is strong and the action is crisp, in both half and full positions.
The bright steel metalwork now has a peppered pitted finish, which is very smooth.
The 0.7 calibre barrel is rifled and it has a plain nail type ramrod.
The woodwork is in great condition, except for some bruising on the back of the grip.
A small and sturdy service pistol.
Barrel length 11.5cm, overall length 26cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license.
