Late 18th/Early 19th Century Pair of Flintlock Boxlock Pocket Pistols Signed E Joseph & Co Liverpool
The main body and barrel of this pair are made of brass, signed in script E Joseph & Co on one side and Liverpool on the other. Apart from this they only have simple border decoration.
The barrels have sustained some marking in the past (probably due to barrel removal attempts), but both unscrew smoothly and there are clear private (Ketland type) London Proof Marks.
The mainsprings are smooth and the actions are crisp in both half and full position.
The top sliding safety catches also both operate correctly.
The one piece slab sided bevel edged wooden grips are both in great condition.
I can't find any information about a Gunmaker named E Joseph from Liverpool, but I have discovered an Elias Joseph of Liverpool whose name also appears on silverware (watches) and was undeniably "well to do" as I've read that he donated £400 for the education of Hebrew children in the early 19th Century.
These are a lovely pair of pocket pistols
Barrel lengths 4.5cm, overall lengths 16cm.
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
