Queen Anne Style Pocket Pistol With Naval Connections
Queen Anne Style Pocket Pistol With Naval Connections
Late 18th Century Pocket Pistol by Ketland, Converted to Percussion Cap
Cannon barrel (which unscrews) with London Proof Marks.
Ketland and Co. engraved within scroll ribbon on one side and sail looking stand of arms surrounded by blowing wind and wave design. Definitely not your usual stand of arms.
Silver (white metal) escutcheon, which is larger than normal with S. Willcox and Fouled Anchor (Royal Navy) engraved within.
Dolphin engraved hammer and trigger guard safety catch.
Single piece slab sided wooden grip is in good condition with a few aged dents and bruises.
It looks as though the metalwork was originally blued and some of this is still evident, but it is stained and has a small amount of pitting. Mainspring is strong and action works well in full and half position.
An interesting piece by a quality Gunmaker with a connection to our Royal Navy.
Barrel length 6cm, overall length 20cm.
