Mid 19th Century Foliate Engraved Unsigned Percussion Cap Pocket Pistol

A nice round framed percussion boxlock pocket pistol with foliate engraving and a stylised "Dolphin" hammer.

The heavy barrel is stamped with Birmingham Proof Marks but currently won't unscrew from the body.

The steelwork is in pretty good condition with much of its browning still visible and only a few marks of corrosion.

The mainspring is smooth and the action in half and full position is crisp with the hidden drop down trigger operating as it should.

The bag shaped walnut one piece grip is finely hatched and has a silver (white metal) escutcheon which is blank.

There is a slot in the tang behind the hammer which was for a top mounted safety catch which is now missing.

It doesn't look like this is a converted flintlock so was probably made in the 1830s's or 1840's.

It has a very robust barrel for such a small pistol.

Barrel length 6cm, Overall length 16.5cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
