19th Century Percussion Cap Pistol Made to HM Coastguard/Revenue Specification Signed T. Potts, Haydon Square

A crisp and unusual military piece with regulation brass mounts, but with an Irish style fishtail butt.

Although there is light pitting to the barrel, the metalwork is in good condition with a rich even patina across all areas.  The brass work is likewise clean, but unpolished.

The signature "T. Potts Haydon Square" on the lockplate is crisp and clear and the mainspring is good with the action being super smooth at half and full position.

Martin Brander and Thomas Potts of London were a well known Gun making partnership who amongst other things produced Firearms for the Ordnance.  Their firm "Brander and Potts" was dissolved in 1832 after Martin passed away, so I suspect this piece was made later in that decade.

Being a private piece, it doesn't carry the Tower Mark or the Crown VR, but the barrel carries the faint Private London Proof Marks and there is "SI" or "ST" stamped into the woodwork.

Speaking of the woodwork, it is in fine condition with only light bruising and a rich colour, the only exception being a fine crack just in front of the lock.

A very handsome and sturdy military piece.

Barrel length 15cm,  Overall length 29.5cm

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable, ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
