Late 18th Century/Early 19th Century Tap Action Flintlock Boxlock Pistol In Lovely Condition

A great piece by the famous London maker John Twigg.

The metalwork is unpitted and has a pleasant gun metal grey finish and the woodwork is also in fine condition.

The body is engraved with stands of arms on both sides, with Twigg and London in script within oval cartouches on either side.

The mainspring is very strong and the action is super crisp.

The top mounted safety catch engages smoothly with the frizen, and the tap operates smoothly.

Very clear London Proof Marks, plus a maker/inspectors fleur de lis.

Neither barrel currently unscrews.

A great pistol in lovely condition.

John Fox Twigg was born in 1732 and passed away in 1792 and was acknowledged as a Master of his craft (Joseph Manton was his apprentice for a time).  This pistol could be attributed to John Fox or his son John who took over his business. (I think it might be John Fox, as the London Proof Marks look like the 1702 type).

Barrel length 7.5cm, overall length 20cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
