Early 19th Century English Flintlock Double Barreled Boxlock Pistol By H Richards Of London
A lovely pocket sized tap action type pistol in a smooth bright steel finish with a one piece walnut slab sided grip.
The body is nicely engraved with a Stand of Arms on both sides with H Richards within a cartouche on one side and Strand London on the other. The Proof Marks are quite worn, but look like Birmingham marks.
The mainspring is good and the action is nice and smooth in both half and full position.
The top sliding safety catch operates as it should and engages with the frizen steel.
The lower barrel unscrews smoothly, but the top one is currently seized. As is commonly found the bright steel finish has some dark staining.
I've only managed to find information on an H Richards in a thread from a discussion on an internet forum and it states that "H Richards operated from 39 Fish Street and 125 Strand between 1808 and 1809".
A good looking pistol for personal protection from the Napoleonic period.
Barrel length 3.5cm, Overall length 15.5cm
This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a colpocketlectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a licens
