Mid 19th Century English 0.38" Calibre 5 Shot Percussion Cap Pocket Revolver
An unsigned Birmingham made large calibre pocket revolver.
The steelwork has a lovely tactile feel to it and is in pretty good condition with a pleasant dark patina across all parts.
The exception to this smooth finish is on the barrel and loading lever which appear to have a couple of areas "nibbled" by corrosion.
The double line engraved border is clearly visible but the foliate engraving to the body is quite worn.
The barrel is stamped with a 6 and Birmingham Proof Marks as is the cylinder between each chamber.
The loading lever sits tightly against the barrel and operates smoothly, but the rammer doesn't seem to enter the cylinder much.
The mainspring is strong and the double action only mechanism, feels like it should be fine, BUT there is a fault, something seems to be jamming the hammer and action from firing (please see the video). It is frustrating as aside from this it is a nice pistol.
The two piece wooden grip is finely hatched and in good condition with no splits or cracks.
A worn, but very tactile revolver.
