19th English Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol From The Reign Of William IV

The last of the British Cavalry flintlock pistols before the new percussion cap system took over.

Many of these pistols were converted to percussion cap, but this one retains its original flintlock configuration.

With the steelwork in lovely condition retaining nearly all of its case hardening colouration on the lock and barrel.

The lock is an Enfield type with a sliding safety catch (that is seized) and stamped with the Crown over WR and the Crowned Broad Arrow.

The mainspring is strong and the action is nice and crisp in half and full position.

The barrel is stamped with Crown over GR and Crown over IVR.  It also carries the Tower Proof Mark.

The Crown over IVR stamp has been struck off centre which does make it look like Crown over M.

The stock is also in good condition with no visible splits or cracks and just the usual bruises that one would expect.  It is also stamped with the Broad Arrow Board of Ordnance Mark and has several Inspection and store stamps in the ramrod channel.

There is also perhaps a name at the tail behind the sideplate, but I can't make it out.

A good clean example of a Military pistol produced for a Monarch who was only on the Throne for 7 years.

Barrel length 22.5cm, Overall length 38.5cm.

This antique pistol is considered obsolete and non functioning, and is sold as a collectable ornamental item. This product is available for purchase in the UK without a license
